Remembered a disastrous fire that burned up a handful of wooden houses up in the hill some 50 years ago. These houses were simple makeshift sheds and they were not legally built. All these wooden houses were built by the owners, who held no legal title of the lots.
Since these houses were all gone now. It was a big problem for the government what to do with such a large number of them. Finally the government decided to rebuild a large number of houses to settle the crisis. Now these people lost everything and eventually they recovered a new and better home.
David once led his own recovery mission after an attack by the vicious Amalekites. He and his army discovered the Amalekites had raided and burned down their town – “taken captive the women and everyone else in it, both young and old. They killed none of them, but carried them off as they went on their way. When David and his men reached Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive.” (1 Samuel 30:2-3) “So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep. David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.” (1 Samuel 30:4, 6)
As God promised, David pursued the Amalekites and “David recovered everything the Amalekites had taken, including his two wives. Nothing was missing: young or old, boy or girl, plunder or anything else they had taken. David brought everything back.” (1 Samuel 30:18-19)
When we face spiritual attacks that “rob” us away our hope, we can find renewed strength in God. He will be with us in every challenge of life.
