There are quite a few people that we don’t know they had a dark side of life behind them. A friend who works as a social worker helping many having trouble with the laws, alcohol abuse, drug addiction and mental issues etc. Yet my friend had a passion to help this group of vulnerable people in the society. Fortunately many could get back on track and live a normal life. How about those who are still left behind?
But also some group who were rescued through the power of Jesus. “For you were once in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.” (Ephesians 5:8)
Such is the call for every believer in Jesus. Children of light, like us, have been engulfed in this world’s darkness.
“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” (Ephesians 5:3–4, 11) These fruitless deeds of darkness are to be avoided. Many in our communities and throughout the world need the brilliant, distinctive witness of those upon whom Jesus has shined. How unique it is?
Father, forgive me for my passivity about being light. Lead me and use me as light in the dark spaces of this world.
