We all know, naming a child is important. We believe that a person’s name will more or less determine his personality and fate. Because it carries an important implication and future destiny or expectation of his mission from his family.
In Bible times, names are also very important. When God appeared to Moses in the flames of thorns and gave him the task to lead the Israelites from the powerful Pharaoh, Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, “The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” (Exodus 3:13-14)
This name shows that God is eternal, self-sufficient, pre-existing, inherently existing, and also governs everything and is almighty. He is the only ruler in the universe and does not need to rely on other things to exist. From yesterday, today and forever, He will not change. Nothing can make him go against his own characteristics or his own honesty.
The name of God is the basis for our faith in Him forever! Understanding the meaning of God’s name can help us trust Him in our daily lives and help us to fulfill our duties. Because we know that the infinite “self and ever” God is with us, and He will never change.
