There is no greater and deeper love than the love between the parents and their children. I remembered a story my teacher told me when I was a young child. The mother sent her boy to a school, but the children were not very good in that school. So the mother decided to move to another area to live, she hoped that the boys would be better in this area. Again she found the boys in that school were not good enough. Then she moved again to another place, which she found the school was good enough for his son, then she settled down. My teacher explained if we were with a group of bad children, we would learn the bad things since we didn’t know what was good or bad. Because the mother loved her child.
For the same token, our heaven Father will love his children, simply us, children of God. When the apostle John writes to believers in the early church who were struggling to find footing for their faith as false teaching went around them. He extends these words like a life-preserver: “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1).
Naming believers in Jesus as “children” of God was an intimate and legal labeling that brought validity to all who trust in Him. Well, how much the lengths and depths God will go for His children! There are actions a parent will take only for their child—like a child is going to drown and the parent will jump into the water and save his child son regardless if he is a good swimmer or not. Like the great act of our heavenly Father, who sent His only Son to gather us close to His heart and restore us to life with Him.
