We don’t have to sing only in the darkest moments, we can also sing in the lonely and difficult times. I remembered once a sister of the church told me her friend’s family sang when their father was dying. He simply was on his way to meet God. The only thing to sooth the family was to sing hymns, which could really make the atmosphere very peaceful and less upset.
In a moment of crisis, God’s people sing. They sing about who God is and what He does. It also helps us remember that “He’s compassionate, merciful, and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.” (Psalm 103:8-10) These are good things to sing about during the dark nights of our lives.
