The angels visited Mary and Joseph told them that the baby’s name would be “But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Jesus (Matthew 1:20-21)
He would also be called “Immanuel” “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14) Immanuel means “God is with us,” because He would be God in human form—deity wrapped in swaddling clothes. Isaiah also revealed additional titles “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God. Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
It’s always exciting to name a new baby. But no other baby had such a powerful, exciting, world-changing name as the one who was “Jesus who is called the Messiah” What a thrill for us to be able to “call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12).Let’s praise Jesus and contemplate everything He means to us this Christmas season!_____________________________________________________________________________
