December 2 Christmas Presence – Isaiah 7:10-14

In a letter to a friend years after Phillips Brooks wrote the hymn, he sadly described the result of this relationship in his own life: “I cannot tell you how personal this grows to me. He is here. He knows me and I know Him. There is no figure of speech. It is the very real thing in the world, and every day makes it more real. And one wonders with delight what it will grow to as the years go on.”

Brooks is so sure that God’s presence in his life reflecting one of the names of Jesus prophesied by Isaiah: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” The gospel of Matthew gives us the meaning of the Hebrew name Immanuel: “God with us.”

I pray to God to draw Him closer to me so I could know Him more personally and be with Him forever. His loving presence with me is the greatest gift of all. Please help me to live for You today and forever!
