August 30 Self-Checking-Lamentation 3:37-42

I heard about censorship when I was a young boy. It was population censorship. The idea of censorship is a headcount of each family in an area or district. It also involves the age, gender, level of education, mother tongue and language spoken at home. The data is strictly confidential and only to be used by the censorship department of the government. It is mainly for the planning of school, residential housing distribution and city planning.

When we deal with self-censoring, it is obviously being done by the person himself. Sometimes I think it may be cheating a little bit, not really totally honest. People tend to hide something which is not very glorious. Self-censoring is really a good idea for all of us as believers of Jesus. Several times in Scripture, the writers mention the importance of taking a good long look at ourselves to find what’s not right—not God-honoring.

The psalmist prayed,(Psalm 139:23–24)“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Jeremiah put it like this,(Lamentations 3:40)“Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the LORD.”

And Paul, speaking of our heart condition at the time of communion, said, (1 Corinthians 11:28) “Everyone ought to examine themselves.”

The Holy Spirit can help us turn from any attitudes or actions that don’t please God. So before we head out into the world today, let’s stop and seek the Spirit’s help in doing some self-checking so we can “return to the Lord” in fellowship with Him.

February 25, 2021 To Be Human – Philippians 4:6-8
