How often do we see people who fail in the eyes or standards in our society and yet they are fragile too. They would do anything which we consider rational and self-destruction such as suicide and even kill someone they considered those who are responsible for their failure and mistakes. And that is so often we see from newspapers a father killed their kids and teenagers committed suicide. It’s all tragic, but we might be able to help in some way. We need to step up to help those with God’s great everlasting love.
When someone is in deep trouble and also they realize they are not ignored for their wrongdoing but conversely they are accepted and reconciled even with their past mistakes. That is what they are looking for. If we can reflect the heart of our God who loved His people Israel “with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3-4). The people had stumbled into the hard consequences of their persistent violation of His guidelines. Yet God told them, “I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. I will build you up again” (vv. 3–4). Not until these people ran into real love that day, their belief had been that God and His followers would only condemn them. We showed them something different: the God who won’t ignore our sin because He loves us beyond imagination. He welcomes us with open arms. We don’t have to keep running.
