July 5 Renewed Strength-Psalm 103:1-5

I heard a few stories about people being in the state of burnout. A sample was a man who dedicated so much time in his career. Maybe due to the extreme pressure from his boss or he wanted to excel his peers in performance to get ahead. Another case was a man who held two jobs to order to suffice his personal financial goals in a specific limit of time. In both cases, the results were the same, they ended up taking medication or facing a choice of slowing down or quitting the job temporarily. It seems fairly common in our society and I think it has to do with the pressure nowadays.

Then do we have any solution to this problem? Of course, we have to turn our God for help. In the scripture provides two tactics for beating burnout. In Isaiah 40, the weary soul is renewed when it hopes in the Lord (vv. 29–31). I needed to rest in God, trusting Him to work, rather than pushing on in my own limited strength. And Psalm 103 (v. 3–4), says with forgiveness and redemption, provisions of joy and play come from Him too. God renews us by satisfying our desires with good things (v. 5).  When we rework our schedule to include more prayer, rest, and play. We begin to feel healthy again. Burnout begins with weariness. We serve others best when our lives include both worship and rest.
