June 25 Deep-rooted Faith – Matthew 13:18-23

When I was a boy I was curious to stop by seeing someone cutting down a tree. After the tree cutter came to clear the stump part he stopped. I asked him if he was going to dig the root out. He said no because it would take more time and work to dig out the root. When I bought the house, which I am living in now. I tried to clear the root partially exposed on the ground and I found the root was so tough and wouldn’t budge at all when I hit it hard with a plough. My plough bounced like hitting something and hard and untouchable. Later I consulted someone who knew a lot more about gardening stuff. He said I need a specialist to do the root. Then I knew it was not as simple as expected. Someone said when we see something exposed in the air is just like the tip of an iceberg. What we see is only 10% but what we don’t see is 90%.

When Jesus explained the parable of the sower to His disciples, He emphasized the importance of being firmly planted in a personal relationship with our God. As we know God more as revealed through the scriptures, our roots of faith are sustained by His Spirit. God helps us the followers flourish through ever-changing times, trials and adversity. Going through the trials and hardships of life, His Spirit transforms our character and produces the spiritual fruit of our deep-rooted faith becomes evident to people around us.
