Tough times come and go. We cannot understand why it occurs and avoids it if we can. It seems
to indicate the mystery of life. I just heard from the radio a family car was hit by a young driver. The young driver was in critical condition while all passengers and driver were killed in the family car. The driver of the family car was a young mother with three daughters from ages 1, 5 and 7. It was a terrible thing that happened in the community. Can this be avoided? Did the young mother do anything wrong so that was her punishment? Another incident was a man was caught carrying 7.5 kg of drugs and he was sentenced to death in China. While the US government protested that this man did not deserve the death penalty. Is there justice in our world? I really cannot answer the question!
A similar situation happened to a Christian family. He cried out to God “Why did this happen to me?” The whole church was dumbfounded. There are so many things that happened beyond our understanding or any logic. The only thing we can trust in God is that there is a reason and goodwill behind yet we don’t know. Suddenly I remember a song called “Trust and obey”.Perhaps this will echo in Isaiah 8:17. Even when he couldn’t feel God’s presence as he braces for trouble from his enemies, he would “wait for the Lord.” He trusted in God because of the signs He’d given of His continuing presence.
There are times when we might feel as if God isn’t with us in our troubles. That’s when we depend on what we can see of His works in our lives, in the past and present. They’re the visible reminder of an invisible God – a God who is always with us and will answer in His own time and way.
