June 16 Just-in-Case Idols – Jeremiah 11:9-13

People nowadays are influenced by all kinds of media from TV, magazine, radios and internet about how we can retire in a comfortable and luxurious way of living. First things first we must establish a decent way of investing now and building a golden egg for the future. This is nothing new and people look forward to a fantastic future retirement, so many will follow this path. Actually, there is nothing wrong to plan for future retirement. The problem is we are being bombed day and night by this kind of messages from the media around us. Some of them live at a higher level of society. The topic of discussion almost circles around easy living, enjoyments and vacation in exotic spots in a different part of the world. We are being submerged by this fantasy. This fantasy becomes idolatry.


We know that the kind fantasy would not last forever and we simply ignored what will happen on the day we depart from the earth. And we’ll ask Him to bless us now. But we’ll also lean on this idolatry, just in case. Where is our trust? Thank God for His many gifts, and tell Him we are not relying on any of them. Our faith is riding entirely on Him.
