From time to time, we encounter verses in scripture regarding humility and love to our enemies. I never realize that we can do it similarly to temptation as well. We know there are good and bad temptations. Obviously, we want to choose good temptation or good inclination. Many times we find it hard to choose good temptation even simple choices as doing exercise vs sitting down to watch TV or mowing the lawn vs playing computer games. This is the choice facing us on a daily basis. Now come to the question, to do or not to do?
“The key to victory is true humility and patience; in them we overcome the enemy” said by Thomas à Kempis, author of “The Imitation of Christ”. I believe the real enemy is myself. If we want to walk with Christ, we have to conquer our old self. Once we take control of our own body and mind, we can eliminate many obstacles and frustration. Although giving in to temptation or choice can bring stress and agony, when we turn to God with humble hearts seeking His wisdom and grace, we find He “gives generously to all power to demolish our bad choice without a lot of pain. Through His power in us, our struggle to resist sin or bad inclination will become much less dismay and disappointment. When we trust in Jesus, there’s no reason to live in fear and as God’s loving children, we can find peace as we rest in His loving arms even as we face temptation.
