The eclipse caused unusual darkness to come over the typically bright summer afternoon. Throughout history darkness during the day has been seen as abnormal and forecasting something bad is going to happen. I remembered some people said when there is snow in the month of June or July, there would be a drought or a poor harvest would come along. People said this based on observation of the past experience or historical data. (Today we call statistical data in scientific term) In ancient Israel, Amos warned the northern kingdom that would collapse if they continued to turn away from God. As a sign, God would “make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight” (Amos 8:9). And God’s ultimate desire and purpose was time to return and made things right. When we are in this challenging time life is at its darkest, things will have a comeback for the good, we can find comfort in knowing God is at work to bring light and hope back to our world.
