August 19 Only Trust -1 Kings 17:8-16

Going back some nineteen years ago when I was still working in a consulting company. I passed by a desk of a drafting department and I just glanced over the job order of the day. A name seemed familiar to me and I asked the person who was responsible for the job order and explained that I wanted to find out the name on the order sounded like a friend from university. And he gave me his phone number. I called the number at home and it was a total surprise that the guy on the other end recognised my voice and knew who I was since we did not call each other for at least fifteen years. Then I explained to him that I was looking for a job as my contract would come to the end soon. I forwarded my resume to him and got a response from a company a couple weeks later. I went to an interview and I got hired one week later and offered me a salary which was the highest ever. I thank God for giving me the best gift of the year.

It reminds us that God’s help can come through unexpected sources like a needy widow. “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug” (1 King 17:12). Earlier it was ravens that brought him bread and meat in the morning and in the evening and he drank from the brook.(1 King 17:6).  A clear vision of God as the Provider who has promised to supply our needs can be liberating. Before we seek solutions, may we be careful to seek Him first. Doing so can save us time, energy, and frustration. Alleluya.
