Fire was used to refine gold since ancient time, process method was improved over time, but fire was still the main element in the whole process. In Bible times, the apostle Peter used the gold-refining process as a metaphor for the way trials work in the life of a believer. At that time, many believers were being persecuted by the Romans for their faith in Christ. Peter knew what that was like firsthand. For persecution as he explained would bring out the “genuineness of our faith” or might be our endurance.
Perhaps we feel like we are in the heat of a refinery – feeling the heat of setbacks, illness, or other challenges. But hardship is often the process in which God purifies the gold of our faith. In our pain we can tell how strong our faith is, but He knows what’s best for us, even when life hurts. Particularly when we are in the pandemic stage, everyone is impacted one way or another, some lost their jobs others lost their business. Parents have to worry about the health of their children and they might worry about their own health as well. Different people worry about different things for various reasons. Life is stressful. But we stay connected with Jesus, seeking His comfort, peace and strength. We can surpass our difficulty and challenges.
