Due to the high demand for efficiency of productivity in all activities in today’s world. Rushing and high-speed productivity become a norm. Fast service is a necessity, otherwise you will be behind your business and in turn you lose profit. That is why so many of us today feel rushed doing our jobs, working long hours, monitoring all the activities from the computer, and feeling pressured to meet tighter and tighter schedules or deadline. We seem that we cannot get away from this, even on vacation we need to do it seamlessly without any resting gap. Excitement and orgy mix together, it ends up more exhausted after the ordeal. This is exactly how many of us feel that way. In turn it creates a culture of rush.
When God told the Israelites to keep a Sabbath, He added an important reason: “Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.” (Deuteronomy 5:15).
There they’d been forced to work ceaselessly under Pharaoh’s excessive time constraints. Now freed, they were to give themselves a whole day each week to ensure they and those who served them could rest. Under God’s rule, “ but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God.” (Deuteronomy 5:14). We often do the work to the point of exhaustion or get impatient with people who wait in the line. Let’s give ourselves and each other a break a day in the week.
God of the Sabbath, thank You for commanding us to rest so we can be whole.
