December 15 Gentle Speech – 2 Timothy 2:22-26

Years ago I read a book called “How to win friends and be successful” Words are important that they can kill or they can heal (reconciliation or restoration of relationship). Also speaking the right words at the right time is the key to succeed. When speaking the wrong word at the wrong time can lead to disaster and tragedy.

Apostle Paul’s wise advice to Timothy gave the same caution. “Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.” (2 Timothy 2:23-24)

When the conversation turns to our faith, we must use mild language and with love “Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth”. (2 Timothy 2:25)

Speaking kindly to others is part of this challenge, but not just for pastors. For all who love God and seek to tell others about Him, may we speak His truth in love. With every word, the Holy Spirit will help us.
